I have, however, seen it consistently refer to works of literature (or art, or philosophy) that were created AFTER World War I. Therein lies (what I thought) one of the components of Modernism: critique of the societal institutions that were revered before the war. Kjennetegn på modernismen er både et eksperimentelt formspråk og en livsfølelse preget av storby og fremmedgjøring. Modernism also involved the search for new forms of writing. In broad terms, the period was marked by sudden and unexpected breaks with traditional ways of viewing and interacting with the world. Modernism is both a philosophical movement and an art movement that arose from broad transformations in Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
